Kilcoole Athletics Club will hire Shoreline Athletics Track, Charlesland, for 2 hours on 10 October, between 12.00 – 2.00 pm (note – latest possible time for entry is 1.45 pm), to host a ‘run a mile…’ charity event. During this time the track will be available for everybody – runners and non-runners – to come along, ‘run (or walk) a mile’, and make a financial contribution (suggested donation – adults €10; children €any) to aid the most vulnerable of refugees. Participants can race it, run it, jog it, or walk it, and can even cut it short if a mile is too much of a challenge. It will be open to all ages, and every cent raised will go to UNICEF’s children’s refugee fund. It is a fun event, so we ask you to make a special effort to come along on the day and ‘run your mile’, and would be delighted if you could advertise this event as widely as possible among your family and friends – it is open to all. Track rules determine that appropriate running shoes and loose clothing must be worn.

The schedule for Kilcoole AC’s charity “Run a mile for children running for their lives” on Saturday, 10 October, at Shoreline Running Track is as follows:
12.00: First run/walk.
12.20: Second run/walk
12:40: Third run/walk
1.00: Fourth run/toddle – 100 metre ‘teddy bear dash’ for young children
1.05: Fifth run – ‘Elite run/race’ – this for all runners (especially all club runners!) who aim to complete their mile in < 7 minutes.
1.20: Sixth run/walk
1.40: Seventh/final run/walk – a ‘fancy dress’ (optional) run, and children in particular are encouraged to participate.
2.00: Wrap up. The track is booked from 2pm, so it must be vacated promptly.

Runners will conclude their final lap in lanes 4-6. Cones will be laid out guiding runners there.

Note that these runs are non-competitive, and no prizes will be awarded. All money raised goes to unicef’s children’s refugees’ fund. We suggest a donation of €10 for adults, €anything for children, €20 for families; but any donation will be accepted. We encourage you to come early to ensure that you get your run in. Last access to the track will be at 1:40 pm. Please come along and enjoy the event, and help raise much needed funds for the most vulnerable of refugee.
